?1 Operator Savant Alaska LLC, a unit of Denver-based Savant Resources LLC, spudded its #1 Kupcake on Alaska’s North Slope. The 11,000-ft. test targets Kemik sand in Section 29-11n-18e, Umiat Meridian, reports IHS Energy. It is 17.4 miles east of Prudhoe Bay and 4.3 miles southeast of Endicott fields.

2 The #9-4-9 Smilodon, #28-6-9 Panthera and #6-3-9 Mastodon presumably targeted Cretaceous sands on Alaska’s North Slope. Chevron Corp.’s Unocal subsidiary drilled three wildcats in its White Hills exploration program in the Brooks Range foothills, in Section 9-4n-9e, Section 28-6n-9e and Section 6-3n-9e, Umiat Meridian, respectively. The prospect area extends from six to 41 miles south of Kuparuk River Unit between the Colville and Sagavanirktok rivers. No details of drilling results have been released.

3 The #1-16 Explorer-State is slated to be drilled in the Paradox Basin about eight miles east-southeast of Monticello in northeastern San Juan County, Utah. Midland, Texas-based CrownQuest Operating LLC will drill the 5,875-ft. wildcat in Section 16-34s-25e targeting several objectives including Honaker Trail, Ismay and Desert Creek. The well is set up as a northeast offset of a noncommercial Shinarump gas discovery below 2,600 ft. The new venture is four to five miles south-southwest of Piute Knoll Field, which was completed in 1973 flowing 1.26 million cu. ft. of gas daily from Ismay. The discovery was shut in after completion and never brought online.

4 The #1-14H Jacobsen was completed as an oil discovery about 10 miles east of Froid in northeastern Montana. Billings-based Cardinal Oil LLC completed the horizontal test in Section 14-30n-57e, Roosevelt County. It produced 52 bbl. of 36.5-degree oil with 39,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Ratcliffe (Madison). A vertical Ratcliffe producer was completed in 1996 about a mile west-northwest. There, #1-10 Wheeler extended Shotgun Creek Field a mile north and produced 143,375 bbl. of oil and 49.8 million cu. ft. of gas through September 2007.

5 Kimball, Neb.-based Evertson Operating Co. plans to drill a pair of 11,010-ft. wildcats in a nonproducing area of the Williston Basin eight to 10 miles north of Richey, Mont. The #1-36 Evertson-State is in Section 36-24n-51e and #2 Lee is in Section 18-23n-52e, about 2.5 miles south-southeast. Abandoned Lisk Creek Field is about four to six miles south. It produced less than 2,000 bbl. of oil from Red River in 1981. Lane Field makes oil from Red River about 12 miles east.

6 A western Dunn County producer was completed by Fort Worth, Texas-based Encore Operating LP about two miles southwest of Killdeer, N.D. The #11X-33H Truchan initially flowed 315 bbl. of 42-degree oil and 202 bbl. of water a day with flowing tubing pressure of 400 psi. The Bakken discovery is in Section 33-145n-95w. Nearest Bakken production comes from Murphy Creek Field about two miles southeast. The company’s #24-2H Kulish flowed 488 bbl. of 42-dgree oil and 650 bbl. of water a day. It produced 31,460 bbl. of oil, 1.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 15,960 bbl. of water between February and November 2007.

7 The #4-8H Linseth, in Section 8-149n-95w, flowed 373 bbl. of 44.7-degree oil, 410,000 cu. ft. of gas and 144 bbl. of water a day in eastern MacKenzie County on the southern end of the Nesson Anticline, about eight miles west of Mandaree, N.D. New Orleans-based Helis Oil & Gas Co. LLC drilled the Bakken producer. The current venture is in a previously nonproducing township about two miles east of Croff Field, which produces from Madison, Duperow and Red River. Closest Bakken production is 2.5 miles northwest.

8 Whiting Oil & Gas Corp., Denver, completed a step-out from a high-volume Bakken discovery about seven miles northeast of New Town, N.D. The #11-27H Liffrig pumped 2,247 bbl. of 42-gravity oil and 1.7 million cu. ft. of gas a day. It is in Section 27-153n-91w, southern Mountrail County. The venture is about a mile south of the first well drilled in the township, Whiting’s #11-22H Locken, which initially flowed 1,323 bbl. of oil and 1.97 million cu. ft. of gas a day.

9 Denver-based Kodiak Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. completed its #4-35HR NT-Federal in Section 35-14n-100w, southern Sweetwater County, about 42 miles southeast of Rock Springs, Wyo., in the Vermillion Basin. The well flowed 1.06 million cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of condensate and 1 bbl. of water a day from Baxter shale between 12,838 and 13,603 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 7,500 psi on a 3/64-in. choke.

10 The #3 Barrel Springs-State flowed gas at an initial rate of 2.1 million cu. ft. of gas and 35 bbl. of water a day in the eastern Washakie Basin. Yates Petroleum Corp. drilled the well in Section 16-15n-93w, Carbon County, about 20 miles northwest of Baggs, Wyo., in the southern part of the state. The 10,434-ft. wildcat had a flowing tubing pressure of 750 psi. It is 0.25 mile south of the company’s 2006 discovery at #1 Barrel Springs-State, which flowed 2.5 million cu. ft. of gas, 20 bbl. of condensate and 17 bbl. of water a day. The well produced 668.9 million cu. ft. of gas, 4,439 bbl. of condensate and 12,267 bbl. of water between October 2006 and October 2007. Yates is based in Artesia, N.M.

11 A 6,150-ft. wildcat will target D and J sands on the northeastern flank of the Denver Julesburg Basin about 17 miles northeast of Kimball, Neb. Casper, Wyo.-based True Oil LLC has scheduled #33-31 James for Section 31-18n-54w in Banner County. Inactive Flint Field is two miles south. There, #1 Mossberg was completed in 1967 pumping 53 bbl. of oil a day from J sand. Before it was abandoned in 1993, the 6,154-ft. well produced 79,217 bbl. of oil. Two-well Pile Field is about two miles south-southwest. This field produced 44,136 bbl. of oil, 29 million cu. ft. of gas and 301,570 bbl. of water from 1959 to 1993. The company completed its #24-31 James as a dry hole in 2004 within 0.25 mile of the new venture, reports IHS Inc.

12 Boulder, Colo.-based Diamond Operating Inc. will target Permian Lyons with its 9,050-ft. #1-18 Hawkins in Section 18-8n-67w, northeastern Weld County, about four miles northeast of Fort Collins, Colo. The new venture is 2.5 miles east-northeast of Cobb Lake Field, a one-well Niobrara pool, and about six miles east of Fort Collins Field, which produces from Muddy, J sand and Lyons. Discovered in 1924, the field has produced 6.3 million bbl. of oil, 477.5 million cu. ft. of gas and 52 million bbl. of water.

13 The #1-19 Dukeage is slated for a location on the Las Animas Arch about seven miles south of Lamar, Colo. Dallas-based Cholla Petroleum Inc. plans to drill the 4,999-ft. wildcat in Section 19-21s-46w, northern Prowers County. The site is 0.75 mile southeast of a 2006 discovery, #1-18 Duke, which flowed 380,000 cu. ft. of gas from Middle Morrow on 16/64-in. choke. Through October 2007, the well produced 44 million cu. ft. of gas.
