Marathon Oil Corp.'s president and CEO, Lee Tillman, discussed how "license to operate" has acquired new significance in unconventional drilling with Oil and Gas Investor's chief technical director, Richard Mason. The usual list of qualifications license to operate covers now includes "the intensity of the development, the amount of activity, the footprint of the unconventionals." "We're very close to the communities in which we operate," he said, noting that the industry wants a "high minimum standard" and earns the license to operate "each and every day."
