The Granite Wash has a long history as an oil- and natural gas-bearing play, and thanks to its unusual geology that reputation is able to continue in times of price volatility. The play is "stacked," meaning it contains several formations layered across one another. As NGLs have become less profitable, operators are able to move to other, oil-bearing pay zones instead.
