According to Bloomberg Sept. 19, Southwestern Energy Co. is among six global oil and gas producers set to create a partnership next week to cut harmful methane emissions, a company executive said last week.
The group, which includes Norway’s Statoil ASA, Italy’s Eni SpA and Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, will pledge to use the latest technologies in production to ensure that gas leaks are contained, and to study what works and what doesn’t, Mark Boling, Southwestern’s president for development solutions, said in an interview. The company is based in Houston.
The effort to cut methane, a potent greenhouse gas linked to global warming, will be unveiled at the United Nations Climate Summit this week, White House adviser John Podesta said on a media conference call Sept. 18.
