A deep Knox oil exploratory test in Jefferson County, Ill., is underway by Pioneer Oil Co. The #1-5 Kabat-Stanfield is in Section 5-4s-1e. According to IHS, MKE Producing Inc. has had a shallow drilling program in the area for several years. Two miles to the east in Section 3 is MKE’s #3 Eyre in Section 10, which was abandoned in mid-2015 at 4,525 ft in Devonian. To the northeast is Waltonville Field, where MKE operates several wells that are producing from McClosky Lime at 2,800 ft and St. Louis at 2,880 ft. To the west is Perry County’s Tamaroa Field, which produces from pays in Cypress (1,120 ft), Trenton (4,135 ft) and Platteville (4,268 ft). Pioneer’s headquarters are in Lawrenceville, Ill.
