Industrial employment increased at a much slower pace in North Dakota over the past year, according to the 2016 North Dakota Manufacturers Register industrial database and directory, Manufacturers’ News Inc. (MNI) said Aug. 17.

MNI’s data showed industrial jobs in the state grew by about 1%, adding 429 net jobs from June 2014 to June 2015.

Industrial employment soared 31% in North Dakota between 2010 and 2014, according to MNI data, due mostly to the state’s oil boom. The state is currently home to 1,204 manufacturers employing 47,159 workers.

MNI reports employment in North Dakota’s oil/gas extraction sector stalled over the past year, adding no new net jobs after skyrocketing 250% between 2010 and 2014. The industry now ranks second in the state for number of jobs, employing 9,030.

“North Dakota’s industrial base grew exponentially as the oil boom took hold, but growth is sputtering with the fall in oil prices,” says Tom Dubin, president of the Evanston, Ill.-based publishing company.
