Crude Oil Burns In North Dakota After Two-Train Crash, Forcing Nearby Town To Evacuate

A BNSF train carrying oil struck an already derailed grain train on an adjacent track Dec. 30, about one mile west of Casselton, N.D., causing a massive explosion and thick black clouds of smoke. No injuries were reported.

“We believe approximately 21 cars involved in the derailment are on fire,” BNSF said. “There were no injuries to either of the train crews involved.”

Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. said the latest crude-by-rail accident will continue discussion of safety issues surrounding train transport of crude oil.
