Shell Oil Co. has reported a deepwater exploration discovery. The initial estimated recoverable resources (Norphlet) for #1 OCS G08831 at the Fort Sumter prospect are more than 125 MMboe. More appraisal drilling and planned wells in adjacent structures could increase the recoverable potential of the prospect. The find is in Mississippi Canyon Block 566 where water depth is 7,062 ft. It was drilled to 28,016 ft. The block is operated by Houston-based Shell, with 100% interest.
