Alberta named Dave Mowat, chief executive officer of Alberta Treasury Branches, to lead a panel to review the province’s oil and gas royalty payments, Bloomberg said.
Other members will join Mowat and the group will begin the review later this summer, Mowat said today in a briefing in Edmonton. Energy Minister Marg McCuaig-Boyd said the panel’s conclusions will be presented by the end of the year.
“It’s a daunting challenge,” Mowat said during the briefing with McCuaig-Boyd. “My job is to present facts and create a discussion with all stakeholders.”
The New Democratic Party ended a four-decade long Progressive Conservative dynasty in Alberta by winning an election in May. During the campaign, Premier Rachel Notley promised a review of the government’s take of energy revenue and a faster phase-out of coal power.
