Aztec Oil Names Johnson President; Keeps Corporate HQ In Houston

Published Nov 11, 2008

Aztec Oil & Gas Inc., Houston, (OTCBB: AZGS) has named Waylan R. Johnson president, replacing Franklin C. Fisher, Jr. will remain chief executive officer and chairman.

Aztec also announced its corporate offices will remain in Houston, while the company's operations offices will move to Spicewood, Texas, where they will be headed by Johnson.

Johnson has 21 years in the energy industry, having worked with multiple private and public oil and gas companies in top business and management positions. He is also the founder of several successful independent oil and gas companies.

Fisher says, “Since early 2006, we have been molding the structural base of Aztec toward a point in time where we put the company on a fast-track growth pattern. I have known Waylan Johnson for years and know that he is a very well respected professional with many years of executive level experience owning and running fast growing oil and gas companies.

“His significant experience and in-depth knowledge of the industry plus his deal management skills will prove invaluable to Aztec and its shareholders. I am pleased to have him on our team and look forward to working closely with him to help Aztec realize its goals for the next years and beyond.”

Johnson says, “Aztec is a dynamic company that has interested me and many other energy industry professionals for some time now. It has been built slowly and carefully and is now positioned better than any smaller public company of which I know to capitalize on the current energy situation and rapidly accelerate its growth and profitability.

“When I was approached by Aztec about the position of president, I was pleased to accept because I have long trusted and admired Aztec's CEO, Frank Fisher, and the way he operates. I believe that I can help Aztec to grow rapidly as we capitalize on the best new opportunities to add value to the company and benefit its shareholders and investors.”

Aztec has operations in Potter, Clearfield and Cambria counties in Pennsylvania; Cameron Parish, Louisiana; and Wharton and Wise counties in Texas; and a minority interest in three gas producing wells in Oklahoma.—JAS
