Independence Hub Coming Back Online

Published Jun 4, 2008

Repairs have been completed on the Independence Trail gas pipeline that brings 12% of U.S. Gulf gas production to shore, reports Enterprise Products Partners LP, Houston (NYSE: EPD). The line and Independence Hub production platform were down since a leak on April 9.

Crews replaced an o-ring gasket that had been leaking and initial test results indicate the flex-joint is operating normally, says Enterprise chief executive Michael A. Creel. In about 85 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico, the flex-joint is designed to allow the pipeline to withstand movement.

Creel says volumes from the hub are currently flowing at reduced rates while final testing is completed. The hub is expected to accommodate full volumes before the end of the month.

Located in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico at Mississippi Canyon, Block 920, the Independence Hub platform has a full production at capacity of about 1 billion cubic feet per day. At the time of the shutdown, the hub had been averaging about 900 million cubic feet per day.

Independence, which is operated by Anadarko Petroleum Corp., The Woodlands, Texas, (NYSE: APC) is 80% owned by Enterprise, with Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc., Houston, (NYSE: HLX) owning the balance.
