John J. Moon has returned to Morgan Stanley as a managing director and partner of its Morgan Stanley Private Equity business in New York. Previously, he was with Riverstone Holdings LLC as a managing director, overseeing an E&P and other energy private-equity portfolio. Prior to joining Riverstone, he was a founding partner and managing director for Metalmark Capital LLC, an independent energy private-equity firm established by the principals of Morgan Stanley Capital Partners.

Moon's portfolio companies have included Cantera Resources, Concert Capital Resources, Triana Energy/Columbia Natural Resources and Union Drilling.
