SECTOR COMMENTARYEnergy stocks closed higher, outperforming the broader markets which also finished to the upside as the S&P 500 closed above the 1500 level. The oil services subgroup was the best performer, led by Halliburton which rose over 5% after releasing strong earnings that beat analyst estimates on both the top and bottom lines. The stock closed at a new 52-week high as well.
